Fares is situated in the
Farres-Chalandritsa Plain that stretches from Kallithea down west ofSkiada . The small mountains that stretches from south ofGomosto toOvrya , the forests are sporadically founded. Its main production are fruits including watermelon, melon, figs and vegetables including corn, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, cucumbers and others as well as dairy, livestock, olives and others. The majority of the population are based in other businesses as well as agriculture. It has approximately 10 km of paved roads and hydro lines and not as much residential roads.Residential and other buildings are within the main and farm roads.
Information
The origin of the name dates back to ancient times as Pharae of Pharai. It was located 50
stadia (9 km) from Patras and 100 from the sea (18 km) and was built by the banks of the Peiros. It was part of the Achaean Dynasty and later theAchaean League .Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Radio and automobiles arrived in the 1950s and television in 1980s, computer and Internet arrived in the late-1990s.
After
World War II and theGreek Civil War , much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearbyPatras . In the 1970s, the newPatras Industrial Area was under construction and it completed with several factories and buildings in which it made Patras rich, most of the employees are from thePatras Area as well as a small number south and west of Greater Patras area. the GR-33 was also reconstructed in the 1970s and the 1980s and has been bypassed since that time.Farres was strucked by an earthquake on
February 5 ,2008 and measured at 5.5 on the Richter scale. The first one was not epicentered, a half an hour later, another one occurred and epicentered at Farres, no damages were reported.Population
