Software development begun at September, 13 2003.

Catalencoder uses many external applications, all of which are also free software:
* LAME (encoding WAV to MP3).
* A52Dec (encoding AC3 to WAV).
* DGIndex (VOB to AC3, and video index building).
* Avisynth (resize video).
* Ffdshow (filtre for video-play compatible VFW).
* OggEnc (WAV vers Ogg Vorbis).
* XviD (XviD compressor for convert VOB to AVI).
* VirtualDubMod which allow sound and video multiplexing.
* NSIS to create installer.
* VobSub for the extraction of subtitles from VOB files.
