The Philadelphia TRACON is not a stand-alone TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) but is actually an Up and Down facility which means it includes both a TRACON and ATCT (Air Traffic Control Tower) both in the same facility. PHL is a level 12 facility and the TRACON works on an average daily basis 2,800 movements. While the ATCT works about 1,700 operations on an average daily basis.
The primary responsibility of the Philadelphia TRACON/ATCT is the safe, orderly, and expedicious flow of arrival, departure, and enroute traffic. PHL TRACON's main responsibility is obviously - Philadelphia International Airport. Though, they do offer approach and departure services to several other satellite airports to PHL such as Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) in Philadelphia, PA, New Castle Airport (ILG) in Wilmington, DE, Trenton Mercer Airport (TTN) in Trenton, NJ and several smaller General Aviation fields such as Wings Field (LOM) in Plymouth Meeting, PA, Pottstown Limerick Airport (PTW) in Pottstown, PA and Brandywine Airport (OQN) in West Chester, PA. The TRACON's airspace overlies a total of three states including New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
