science fiction novel written byBrian Herbert andKevin J. Anderson set in the "Dune" universe. It is the first in the "Heroes of Dune " series and is set partially in between ' and "Dune", and partially in between "Dune" and "Dune Messiah ". [ Kevin J. Anderson, [http://arrakis.ru/ha_int_mf.shtml interview] in Russian magazine "Mir Fantastiki ", 2004 ( [http://www.mirf.ru/Articles/print450.html published Russian version] ) "Half of the story is set in the Jihad between "Dune" and "Dune Messiah ", when Princess Irulan decides to become Paul’s official biographer, and she will tell the other half of the story, chronicling Paul’s younger years (between ' and "Dune")."]ynopsis
The book is divided into seven sections, which alternate in time between the beginning and midway through the period of Paul-Muad'Dib's Fremen Jihad and a period in the youth of Paul Atreides, several years before the events portrayed in "Dune".
In it, Paul is recast as knowing about his future son, Leto II; whereas in the original works by
Frank Herbert , he was surprised at the birth. In Herbert's original series, the vision of a prescient person, such as Paul, would be muddled by the existence of other prescients of sufficient numbers or power; it is unclear whether this is deliberately changed in the books written by Keven J. Anderson and Brian Herbert.References
