Louis Thomas Cunnis Leonowens (
25 October 1856 –17 February 1919 ) was a Briton who served as an officer with theSiam ese royalcavalry and founded thetrading company that bears his name.Early life
He was the son of
Anna Leonowens of "Anna and the King of Siam " fame and Thomas Leon Owens, a civilian clerk, whom she married inIndia in 1849. He came to Siam (nowThailand ) with his mother in 1862.Career
Leonowens later returned to Siam (from
Canada where his mother had settled) and became a captain in the Siamese royal cavalry. He later entered theteak trade and went on to found the international trading company that bears his name to this day, leading exporters of Malayanhardwoods and importers of building materials and general merchandise. Leonowens died in 1919 and is buried in

Leonowens married Caroline Knox, a daughter of Sir
Thomas George Knox , the British consul-general in Bangkok (1824–1887), and a Siamese wife, Prang Somkok, who died in 1888.Notes
