Laure Waridel (born in 1973 at
Chesalles-sur-Oron , nearVevey ,Switzerland ) is the co-founder and former president ofÉquiterre (a non-profit organisation based inMontreal ,Quebec ,Canada , promotingfair trade ,energy conservation and ecological and socially just choices), awriter , environmentalist, social activist and radio commentator.Waridel's family left Switzerland and moved to Mont Saint-Grégoire, Quebec, when she was two. Her family ran a
dairy farm in Quebec.Waridel studied
sociology atMcGill University , and has an MA inenvironmental studies from theUniversity of Victoria , in Victoria,British Columbia . In 2002, she was named byMaclean's Magazine as one of 25 Canadian personalities who are making a difference.Waridel defended
Gil Courtemanche 'snovel "Un dimanche à la piscine à Kigali " in the French version of "Canada Reads", broadcast on Radio-Canada in 2004. This novel eventually won the competition.Bibliography
