In 1998, it started a new scheme to motivate disengaged male pupils by encouraging competition for grades and using a system known as "

In 2007 the school was featured in the national press when a high-achieving Year 11 student was barred from attending the end of year
prom for refusing to take part in after-schoolrevision classes.
