Glen Eyre Halls

Glen Eyre Halls

Glen Eyre complex is a hall of residence of the University of Southampton in southern England.

This consists of the following halls:

* Chamberlain Hall
* Hartley Grove Courts
* Chancellors' Courts
* New Terrace
* Old Terrace
* South Hill Lodges
* Richard Newitt Courts
* Brunei House
* Beechmount House
* Gower building

Glen Eyre is one of the largest halls of residence for the students of the University of Southampton, with around 2,050 students in the entire complex (including K, L and M blocks), of which 1,100 are housed in Glen Eyre Hall. Rooms are available with various options consisting of room type and contract length of stay for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Common features at the complex are data points and phones in every room, reception, launderette, social area, TV room, computer room, gym, music room (A.K.A The Round Room) and take-away (Q-Burger). There is a convenience shop and pay-as-you-go restaurant called Chambers which is situated at Chamberlain Hall, which provides a range of hot and cold meals throughout the days and evening. The new fitness room and squash courts are situated at the complex. There are two student bars which are collectively called Glen Bar.

Glen Eyre is set out rather like a village with small houses around a pond, which is very different from other halls like South Hill and Montefiore.

The K, L and M Blocks are now renamed after the 2005/2006 makeover and now known as Chancellor Courts. These buildings were carefully re-modelled and re-furbished by London based architects Jestico + Whiles to provide modern and successful student accomodation. The Wardens' block is now called W block and is used as student accommodation.

J-Block is home to the only catered students in the main Glen Eyre complex. There are four floors with 24 rooms on each. The block is mixed gender, with post-graduates on the top floor. Residents travel to Chamberlain for meals, where they can have two a day (breakfast and then a choice of lunch or dinner).

Notable annual events are the Summer Ball and the Boat Party.

The Christian Union holds regular cell group meetings in the round room on Tuesdays.

Travel information

Glen Eyre is only 10 minutes away from Highfield campus, has easy access from the M3, and is served regularly by the Unilink buses.
