Part of the "Flower roads" estate resides in Bassett (north and west of the Bassett Green secondary school), south and east of this, the estate lays into Swaythling. Although mainly working classFact|date=June 2008, the estate also houses many students from the nearby

Much of the Bassett section of the Flowers roads was formally a nursery owned by a Miss Longmead in the late 19th and early 20th century, the old nursery house is now the Burgess Court old peoples home.Fact|date=June 2008Four public houses have served the local community for many years, the oldest of which is "The Gate"(formally "The Gate brewery, "The Gate hangs high" and "The Hanging gate" situated in Burgess Road (formally Burgess Street) dating back to the late 18th century.
