J. Stanley Webster

John Stanley Webster (February 22, 1877 - December 24, 1962) was a U.S. Representative from Washington.

Born in Cynthiana, Kentucky, Webster attended the public schools and Smith's Classical School for Boys.He studied law at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor 1897-1899.He was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced practice in Cynthiana, Kentucky.He served as prosecuting attorney of Harrison County, Kentucky from 1902 to 1906.He moved to Spokane, Washington, in May 1906. Chief assistant prosecuting attorney for Spokane County 1907-1909.He served as judge of the superior court of Spokane County 1909-1916. Lecturer on criminal and elementary law in Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.He served as associate justice of the State supreme court 1916-1918.

Webster was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth, Sixty-seventh, and Sixty-eighth Congresses and served from March 4, 1919, to May 8, 1923, when he resigned to become United States district judge for the eastern district of Washington, in which capacity he served until August 31, 1939, when he retired due to ill health.He was a resident of Spokane, Washington, until his death there on December 24, 1962.He remains were cremated and the ashes interred in the Oakesdale Cemetery, Oakesdale, Washington.
