Snyder Solomon Kirkpatrick (
February 21 ,1848 -April 5 ,1909 ) was a U.S. Representative fromKansas .Born near
Mulkey, Illinois , Kirkpatrick attended the common schools. During the Civil War served in the One Hundred and Thirty-sixth Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, in 1864.He engaged in mercantile pursuits in 1865.He entered the law school atAnn Arbor, Michigan , in 1867.He returned to Illinois.He was admitted to the bar by the supreme court of IllinoisJune 30 ,1868 , and commenced practice at Cairo.He moved to Kansas in 1873 and settled in Fredonia.He engaged in the practice of law.Kirkpatrick was elected prosecuting attorney of Wilson County in 1880.He served as member of the State senate 1889-1893.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1892 to the Fifty-third Congress.
Kirkpatrick was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress (
March 4 ,1895 -March 3 ,1897 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Fifty-fifth Congress and for election to the Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh Congresses.He served as member of the State house of representatives 1903-1905.He died inFredonia, Kansas ,April 5 ,1909 .He was interred in Fredonia Cemetery.References
