History

The school was founded in the 1960s as a preschool; it was not until the early 1990s that the elementary school division was founded. Nancy Thompson was the elementary principal from its inception to 2008. Until 2004, the preschool department was a separate entity from the elementary division and was led by Laura Coffey, but upon Coffey's departure Thompson took complete control over the entire school. In May 2008, Thompson resigned to take another position at a rival school, and Kim Dahnke took over operations in August of that year.

chool Life

Students at First Baptist are taught all of the common subjects by means of the A Beka Book curriculum. In addition, each week the students take physical education, Spanish, music, and computer classes, and also take a weekly trip to the library. Enrollment is not very high, so every class is able to accomplish things that larger public school classes cannot, such as overnight trips and accelerated learning.

Chapel is also a facet of the school's education; it is held each Monday in the church sanctuary. The students are led in song by the music teache, and then an uplifting spiritual message is given by either Mrs. Dahnke or another teacher. Guest speakers are known to come and share a story or two from time to time.

The lunch menu includes a choice of salad, entree, or sandwich and is provided by a local caterer. The lunch itself is eaten in the church's fellowship hall.

Parental Involvement

Parents are a vital part of the life of FBCS, which relies on them for many different things. The School Board has an active role in the school as well, and the Principal may not make any decision without their approval. Most of the school's students and staff attend the church that the school is based out of, which is evident many times by the attitudes reflected by the staff.
