- Val Taleggio
The Val Taleggio is an
Alpine valley in the Italian region ofLombardy split between the provinces of Bergamo and Lecco. It is a western fork of theVal Brembana which begins in the commune ofSan Giovanni Bianco , in the Province of Bergamo. The valley’s river is the Enna which over the course of the centuries has gouged out a spectacular 3 kmgorge between San Giovanni Bianco andTaleggio known as theOrrido della Val Taleggio (pictured, right). The valley is particularly known for the soft cows’ milk cheese Taleggio which has been made here for many centuries.Administrative divisions
The Val Taleggio comprises three communes:
* Taleggio (Province of Bergamo), with thefrazioni
** Sottochiesa (the seat of theMunicipio );
** Peghera;
** Olda;
** Pizzino;*
Vedeseta (Province of Bergamo), with the frazioni:
** Avolasio;
** Lavinia;
** Reggetto.*

The Val Taleggio can be reached via three routes:
* From the Val Brembana, passing through the Orrido della Val Taleggio;
* From theVal Brembilla , passing through the communes ofBrembilla andGerosa and theForcella di Bura mountain pass;
* From theValsassina , viaMoggio and theCulmine di San Pietro mountain pass.References
