- Henninger Turm
The Henninger-Turm ("Henninger tower") is a grain
storage silo located in theFrankfurt district of Sachsenhausen. It was built by theHenninger Brewery (now part of the Binding Brewery/Radeberger Group) and has a storage capacity of 16,000 tons ofbarley . The convert|120|m|ft|0, 33-storey hightower was designed byKarl Lieser and was built from1959 to1961 . Its was inaugurated onMay 18 ,1961 .The Henninger-Turm has two rotating
restaurant s at the height of 101 and 106 metres and an open-airobservation deck at the height of convert|110|m|ft|0. The tower has been closed to the public sinceOctober 31 ,2002 . Plans to destroy the tower and replace it with a new one were abandoned.Since
1961 every year onMay 1 the professional cycling race "Rund um den Henninger-Turm " is held with a course circling the tower multiple times.Henninger Quartier
In January 2005, new plans were unveiled for a conversion of this landmark into residential towers. This includes construction of three 12-storey towers, an convert|85|m|ft|0, 20-storey tower, several hundred apartments in lowrise buildings, office space, service facilities, and a hotel.
