Mykoła Pławiuk (born
June 5 ,1927 ) is a Ukrainian social and political activist in emigration, who had served as the lastPresident of Ukraine in exile.After
World War II he fled toGermany and later (in 1949) moved toCanada . Before this he received a diploma from University in Munch in economy.He was one of the most active and prominent members of Ukrainian diaspora. During mid of the 1960s he was one of the organizers of the Congress of the Free Ukrainian and their Secretary General (1967-1969), Vice President (1973-1978, and finally President (1978-1981).
He was an active member and supporter of Ukrainian Government in Exile, who claimed to be a legally continuation of authorities of the short-lived independent
Ukrainian People's Republic .After death of President
Mykola Liwicki , Pławiuk became his successor and served from 1989 to 1991.In 1991 Pławiuk ended activity of Exile Government and handed of their prerogatives and power insignia over
Leonid Kravchuk - first post-soviet President of Ukraine.
