The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election, 2002, was conducted on September 22, 2002, to elect members to the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Issues and Campaign
The election was the first time, that an SPD-PDS-coalition ("red-red") had to stand a test at the polls. It was held at the same day as the Bundestag election 2002 and the campaigns of the state parties were highly influenced by the issues of the federal politics.
Results
The coalition in total kept its votes and its seats, while the PDS lost votes and seats for the benefit of the SPD.
Post-election
Harald Ringstorff remained Prime Minister, in an SPD-PDS coalition.
