Robert S. Rose

Robert Selden Rose (February 24, 1774 - November 24, 1835) was a U.S. Representative from New York, father of Robert Lawson Rose.

Born in Amherst County, Virginia, Rose attended the common schools.He moved to Seneca County, New York, in 1803 and settled at Fayette, near Geneva, New York.He engaged in agricultural pursuits.He served as member of the state assembly in 1811, 1820, and 1821.He served as member of the state constitutional convention in 1821 at Albany.

Rose was elected as an Adams-Clay Democratic-Republican to the Eighteenth Congress and reelected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1823-March 3, 1827).

Rose was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-first Congress (March 4, 1829-March 3, 1831). Later affiliated with the Whig Party.He again resumed agricultural pursuits.He died in Waterloo, New York, while attending a session of the circuit court, on November 24, 1835.He was interred in the Old Pulteney Street Cemetery.He was reinterred in Glenwood Cemetery, Geneva, New York.
