Robert Selden Rose (
February 24 ,1774 -November 24 ,1835 ) was a U.S. Representative fromNew York , father ofRobert Lawson Rose .Born in
Amherst County, Virginia , Rose attended the common schools.He moved toSeneca County, New York , in 1803 and settled at Fayette, nearGeneva, New York .He engaged in agricultural pursuits.He served as member of the state assembly in 1811, 1820, and 1821.He served as member of the state constitutional convention in 1821 at Albany.Rose was elected as an Adams-Clay Democratic-Republican to the Eighteenth Congress and reelected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (
March 4 ,1823 -March 3 ,1827 ).Rose was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-first Congress (
March 4 ,1829 -March 3 ,1831 ). Later affiliated with the Whig Party.He again resumed agricultural pursuits.He died inWaterloo, New York , while attending a session of the circuit court, onNovember 24 ,1835 .He was interred in the Old Pulteney Street Cemetery.He was reinterred in Glenwood Cemetery,Geneva, New York .ource
