Cadavrexquis is a studio album by French singer Amanda Lear first released in France 1993 on label Chène Music, including her European comeback dance hit "Fantasy" plus updated versions of three of her greatest hits from the seventies; "Fashion Pack (Studio 54)", "Follow Me" and "Lili Marleen".
After having been a television presenter and family entertainer in Italy for most of the eighties and early nineties and musically confined to mainstream pop, "Cadavrexquis" marked a definite return to the disco genre - much to the delight of her ever loyal following in the European gay communities - and was largely a collaboration with German band Bass Bumpers whose blend of house, rap and Eurodance had previously generated club hits like "Can't Stop Dancing" (1990), "Get The Big Bass" (1990) and "The Music's Got Me" (1992). Two tracks were inexplicably left off the album, namely "Voluptas" (Desire) in Latin and the auto-biographic "Glad to Be Alive", paying tribute to Andy Warhol, John Lennon and other celebrities that Lear knew.
The disco diva was back where she belonged and she was eventually welcomed - after a hesitant start. "Cadavrexquis" was initially only released by minor French record company Chène Music and didn't gain much attention, but then the lead single "Fantasy" slowly grew to be something of an underground hit in gay clubs in Continental Europe which resulted in German dance major Mint Records licensing and re-issueing both the single and the album. "Cadavrexquis" was later even to be bootlegged in Russia.
