Joseph Mullin

Joseph Mullin (August 6, 1811 - May 17, 1882) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Dromore, County Down, Ireland, Mullin emigrated to the United States in 1820 with his parents, who settled in Watertown, New York.He attended the public schools.He worked in a printing office.He attended Union Academy, Belleville, New York, and was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, New York, in 1833. Principal of Union Academy and subsequently taught in the Watertown Academy.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1837.He was appointed examiner of chancery, supreme court commissioner, and commissioner in bankruptcy in 1841.He served as prosecuting attorney of Jefferson County 1843-1849.

Mullin was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress (March 4, 1847-March 3, 1849).He served as president of the village of Watertown in 1853 and 1854.He served as associate justice of the supreme court 1857-1881 and also served as presiding justice.He died at Saratoga Springs, New York, May 17, 1882.He was interred in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, New York.
