Blooming Grove, New York , Tuthill attended common and private schools.He moved with his parents toShawangunk, New York , in 1824.He engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits.He moved to New York City in 1828, and continued his mercantile pursuits.He moved toUlsterville, New York , in 1832, where he engaged in business.He moved toEllenville, New York , in 1834.He served as member of the Ulster County Board of Supervisors in 1842, 1843, 1861, 1862 from 1865 to 1870.He served as clerk of Ulster County 1843-1847.He served as president of the Ellenville Glass Works.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1866 to Congress.Tuthill was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress (
March 4 ,1871 -March 3 ,1873 ).He died inEllenville, New York ,July 27 ,1877 .He was interred in Fantinekill Cemetery, nearEllenville, New York .ource
