James J. Belden

James Jerome Belden (September 30, 1825 - January 1, 1904) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in Fabius, New York, Belden attended the common schools.He engaged in the banking business at Syracuse, New York, in 1880.He was also interested in the construction of railroads and public works.He served as mayor of Syracuse, New York, in 1877 and 1878.

Belden was elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Frank Hiscock.He was reelected to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses and served from November 8, 1887, to March 3, 1895.He was not a candidate for renomination in 1894.

Belden was elected to the Fifty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1897-March 3, 1899).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1898.He died in Syracuse, New York, January 1, 1904.He was interred in Oakwood Cemetery.
