Rochester, New York , Brewster attended the public schools.He became a clerk in the Traders' National Bank in 1863.He was employed as cashier 1868-1894, president 1907-1917, and chairman of the board 1917-1923.He served as vice president of the New York State League of Republican Clubs and president of the Monroe County League.He served as president of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce in 1893 and 1902.He was one of the organizers of the New York State Bankers' Association, serving as vice president in 1894 and president in 1899.Brewster was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Congresses (
March 4 ,1895 -March 3 ,1899 ).He served as chairman of the Committee on Alcoholic Liquor Traffic (Fifty-fifth Congress).He was not a candidate for renomination in 1898.He served as vice president of the National League of Republican Clubs in 1897.He resumed banking and other business activities.He served as delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1900.He retired in 1923.He diedJanuary 29 ,1928 , in Canandaigua, New York, while on a visit.He was interred in Mount Hope Cemetery,Rochester, New York .References
