Albert Gallup

Albert Gallup (January 30, 1796 - November 5, 1851) was a U.S. Representative from New York.

Born in East Berne, New York, Gallup received a limited schooling. In 1818 he married Eunice Smith, daughter of Capt. Amos Denison Smith and Priscilla Mitchell. (His ancestors and descendants are posted on the [http://www.bernehistory.org/index.html Berne Historical Project] web site.)He studied law.He was admitted to the bar and practiced in Albany. Sheriff of Albany County 1831-1834.

Gallup was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1837-March 3, 1839).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1838 to the Twenty-sixth Congress.He was appointed by President Polk collector of customs at Albany.He died in Providence, Rhode Island, November 5, 1851.He was interred in Swan Point Cemetery.
