Shaftsbury, Vermont , Olin attended the common schools, and was graduated from Williams College,Williamstown, Massachusetts , in 1835.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1838 and commenced practice inTroy, New York . Recorder of the city of Troy 1844-1852.Olin was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth, Thirty-sixth, and Thirty-seventh Congresses (
March 4 ,1857 -March 3 ,1863 ).He was appointed by President Lincoln an associate justice of the supreme court of the District of Columbia and served fromMarch 11 ,1863 , until he voluntarily retiredJanuary 13 ,1879 .He died nearSligo, Maryland ,July 7 ,1879 .He was interred in the Danforth family lot adjacent to West Lawn Cemetery,Williamstown, Massachusetts .ource
