James E. Noland

James Ellsworth Noland (April 22, 1920 - August 12, 1992) was a U.S. Representative from Indiana.

Born in La Grange, Missouri, Noland A.B., Indiana University, 1942. J.D., Indiana University, 1948. M.B.A., Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1943.He was in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946.He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for election to the Eightieth Congress in 1946.He was a lawyer in private practice.

Noland was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-first Congress (January 3, 1949-January 3, 1951).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Eighty-second Congress in 1950.He served as assistant attorney general, Office of the Attorney General, State of Indiana, 1952.He served as assistant city attorney, Indianapolis, Indiana from 1956 to 1957.He served as member of the Indiana State Election Board from 1958 to 1966. Secretary, Democratic State committee from 1959 to 1966.He served as delegate, Democratic National Convention, 1964. United States district judge for the Southern District of Indiana from 1966 to 1992 and chief judge from 1984 to 1992.He died on August 12, 1992, in Indianapolis, Indiana.He was interred in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
