William H. Hinrichsen

William Henry Hinrichsen (May 27, 1850 - December 18, 1907) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois.

Born in Franklin, Illinois, Hinrichsen attended public schools and the Illinois Industrial University (now the University of Illinois) at Champaign. He engaged in newspaper work. Hinrichsen was elected Justice of the Peace in 1871 and reelected in 1873. He was appointed deputy sheriff of Morgan County in 1874 and served three terms in that position, residing at Jacksonville. Hinrichsen served as sheriff from 1880 - 1882. He was editor of the "Illinois Courier" in 1882. He moved to Quincy in 1887 where he was editor of the Quincy Herald from 1887 - 1890. He returned to Jacksonville and was elected clerk of the House of Representatives of Illinois in 1891. Hinrichsen served as the Secretary of State of Illinois from 1892 - 1896. He served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1896 and chairman of the Democratic State committee in 1895 and 1896.

Hinrichsen was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1897-March 3, 1899).He engaged in literary pursuits. He died in Alexander, Illinois, December 18, 1907 and was interred in Diamond Grove Cemetery, Jacksonville, Illinois.
