William Dayton Boies (
January 3 ,1857 -May 31 ,1932 ) was a U.S. Representative fromIowa .Born on a farm in
Boone County, Illinois , Boies moved with his parents toBuchanan County, Iowa , in 1873 and settled near Quasqueton.He attended country schools and the public schools ofBelvidere, Illinois .He was graduated in law from theState University of Iowa at Iowa City in 1880.He was admitted to the bar in 1881 and commenced practice in Sanborn, O'Brien County, Iowa.He moved toSheldon, Iowa , in 1887 and continued the practice of law.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election as judge of the district court in 1890.He served as member of the school board of the independent school district of Sheldon 1900-1912.He was appointed judge of the district court of the fourth judicial district of IowaJanuary 1 ,1913 . On a division of this district became judge of the twenty-first judicial district of the State and in 1914 was elected for a term of four years, which position he resigned onMarch 31 ,1918 , to become a candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress.Boies was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and to the four succeeding Congresses (
March 4 ,1919 -March 3 ,1929 ).He was one of the managers appointed by the House of Representatives in 1926 to conduct the impeachment proceedings against George W. English, judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Illinois.He was not a candidate for renomination in 1928.He died inSheldon, Iowa ,May 31 ,1932 .He was interred in Eastlawn Cemetery.References
