Sewall S. Farwell

Sewall Spaulding Farwell (April 26, 1834 - September 21, 1909) was a U.S. Representative from Iowa.

Born in Keene, Ohio, Farwell attended the common schools and an academy in Cleveland, Ohio.He moved to Iowa in 1852 and engaged in agricultural pursuits. During the Civil War enlisted in the Union Army in 1862 as captain of Company H, Thirty-first Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry.He was promoted to major in 1864, and served until the close of the war.He served as member of the State senate 1865-1869. Assessor of internal revenue 1869-1873.He served as collector of internal revenue 1875-1881.

Farwell was elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1881-March 3, 1883).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1882 to the Forty-eighth Congress.He served as president of the Monticello State Bank.He died in Monticello, Iowa, September 21, 1909.He was interred in Oakwood Cemetery.
