Memphis, Tennessee , Newsome attended the public schools ofThompsons Station, Tennessee , andBattle Ground Academy ,Franklin, Tennessee . Stock clerk for wholesale hardware company in 1912.He engaged as salesman 1913-1920. In 1920 became president and treasurer of an electrical company. During the First World War was commissioned a first lieutenant onNovember 27 ,1917 . Later promoted to captain of Infantry, Fifth Division, and served untilApril 29 ,1919 , with overseas service.He served as chairman of Appeals Board No. 2, State of Alabama, Selective Service System in 1942 and 1943.Newsome was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress (
January 3 ,1943 -January 3 ,1945 ).He was an unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1944.He served as president of Associated Industries of Alabama 1953-1955.He was a director of the Exchange Security Bank and the Alabama Gas Corp..He died inBirmingham, Alabama ,November 10 ,1961 .He was interred in Elwood Cemetery.References
