Llandow Circuit is a motorsport circuit near
Llandow ,Vale of Glamorgan , convert|15|mi|km|0 south west ofCardiff ,Wales .Llandow Kart Circuit, run by South Wales Karting Centre, is immediately adjacent to the main circuit.
History
Llandow Circuit began life as an airfield, home to early Spitfires in
World War II . Decommissioned in 1957 part of the site was subsequently purchased by Jack Evans at auction in 1961, who with the help of the South Wales Automobile Club created an oval circuit using the runway and perimiter roads. The circuit was opened byGraham Hill in 1963.The circuit fell into disrepair, losing its track licence in 1977. During the 1980s little motorsport besides karting and testing took place; Welsh motorsport largely moved to the newly created
Pembrey Circuit .Resurfacing work at Llandow led to the granting of a
Motor Sports Association Sprint Licence in 2001. In July 2007, Plans were unveiled for a new housing estate on the area occupied by the circuit and it's near industrial neighbours. The plan by Persimmon and Barrat involves 2,700 homes, two schools and a community centre, but would mean that the circuit is destroyed in the process. Therefore it is a terrible idea and should not be carried out.
