When Bill buys a new
septic tank , Hank rents abackhoe to install it. It soon becomes evident that neither Bill nor Dale have the slightest idea how to operate the backhoe or the first thing about installing the septic tank.Needing an L-pipe, Hank goes to the
Mega Lo Mart where he runs into an inept clerk who insists that all pipes are straight. While he's arguing with the clerk, he overhears another customer having a similar argument with a hardware clerk, who looks strikingly similar to Hank.In the parking lot they have the same make, model, and color of pick up truck. The two run into each other sometime later at the gas station, and Hank strikes up a friendship with the man, who he learns is named Hal. Hank goes so far as to invite Hal to have beer in the alley with the guys and handing over the controls of the backhoe to his new friend.
Bill and Dale become jealous of Hank's new acquaintance, and issue an ultimatum, making Hank choose between his new acquaintance or his old friends. When Hank chooses Hal, Dale and Bill assume that it's because of Hal's backhoe skills so the pair take the backhoe to a
pet cemetery to improve their skill, and get back in Hank's good graces. However rather than improve their skill, they two fall into a hole they dug and are unable to get out of it, becoming trapped in the backhoe.Meanwhile, Hal and Hank's friendship ends because of scheduling conflicts. When the rental agency demand their backhoe, Hank realizes that his friends aren't just staying away but are lost so he searches for them, tracking their path of destruction to the cemetery and helping them free themselves, and the three reconcile their friendship.
