René Matlovič (was born in 1967 in
Prešov ,Slovakia ) is the professor of Human and Regional Geography at theUniversity of Prešov in the Slovak Republic. Since 2006, he has been the President of the Slovak Geographical Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Since 2007, he is a Rector of the [University of Prešov] .] He is also the member of the Slovak National Geographical Committee, the member of the EUGEO board,the member of the working group for Physics and Earth Sciences of the Accreditation Committee in Slovakia. Between 1998 and 2000, he chaired the Collegium of Lutheran Intelligentsia in Eastern Slovakia. He graduated from the Faculty of Science atComenius University in Bratislava with MSc. in Geography (1990) and from the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences at theUniversity of Lodz in Poland with a PhD. in Human Geography (1997). The supervisor of his Master thesis was prof. Ján Paulov and the supervisor of his PhD. thesis was prof. Stanislaw Liszewski. In 2000, he habilitated as a associated professor at the Faculty of Science at Comenius University and in 2007, he was appointed a full professor of geography by the President of the Slovak Republic. He deals with the urban geography, geography of religion, regional geography, demography and theory and methodology of human geography. He was visiting professor at the Institute of Sociology University of Rzeszow (2005-2007), Poland, the visiting lecturer at the Safarik University in Košice (2003-2005) and visiting professor at the Université des Sciences at Technologies de Lille, France (2006). He held the lectures also at the University of Maribor, Slovenia and at the Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan. The main research areas: geographical study of the intra-urban structures and its transformation under influences of the globalisation and postcommunist changes, regional disparities and regional development in Slovakia, demographical analysis, geography of religions and the history of the geographical thought. He published more than 200 articles and books (for instance: Geography of the Spatial Structure of the City of Prešov /1998/, The Geography of Religions /2001/, The Population Geography of Slovakia with Special Focus on the Romany Minority /2005/ - the books were published in Slovak). He has registered more than 428 citations of his scientific articles and books.Sources
