Electric Boat Company ,Groton, Connecticut , in1931 , was acquired by theU.S. Navy from Harry J. Bauer,Los Angeles, California ,3 May 1942 and placed in service19 May 1942 .Western Sea Frontier operations
Beginning active duty with the
U.S. Navy , "Puritan" was assigned to theWestern Sea Frontier ,11th Naval District , San Diego. Fear ofJapan ese attack had reached a zenith on the west coast by1942 . "Puritan" operated on the San Diego Coastal Patrol throughout her Naval career, guarding against such an attack.Completion of Tour of Duty
"Puritan" had but a brief tour with the
U.S. Navy and was placed out of service atSan Diego, California ,27 September 1943 . She was struck from theNavy Register 28 June 1944 and transferred to theWar Shipping Administration for return to her former owner18 November 1944 .References
