USS Guardfish

USS Guardfish

Two ships of the United States Navy have borne the name USS "Guardfish", named in honor of the guardfish, a voracious green and silvery fish with elongated pike-like body and long narrow jaws.

* The first "Guardfish", (SS-217), was a "Gato"-class submarine, commissioned in 1942 and stricken in 1960.

* The second "Guardfish", (SSN-612), was a "Permit"-class submarine, commissioned in 1966 and stricken in 1992.
