Michael Redman (New Zealand)

Michael Redman is the former mayor of Hamilton, New Zealand. He resigned his position to take up the job of Hamilton City Council CEO in May 2007. His replacement was deputy mayor and former Member of Parliament Bob Simcock.

Michael Redman became Hamilton’s youngest-ever Mayor when he was elected in October 2004 aged 38. He received more than 19,000 votes, nearly 12,500 than more than runner up Martin Elliott. Despite having no previous local body experience he united a council to make possible strategic and innovative decision-making for a fast developing city. He oversaw and articulated a new vision for Hamilton’s urban design and was instrumental in securing the V8 Supercars event for the city. In 2006 he was a named an Emerging Leader in the Sir Peter Blake Leadership Awards.
