Henry S. Benedict

Henry Stanley Benedict (February 20, 1878 - July 10, 1930) was a U.S. Representative from California.

Born in Boonville, Missouri, Benedict moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California, in 1888.He attended the grammar schools and high school.He attended the University of Southern California College of Law, Los Angeles, California.He was admitted to the bar in 1910 and commenced practice in Los Angeles, California.He served as member of the State house of representatives 1910-1914.He served in the State senate 1914-1916.

Benedict was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of United States Representative William D. Stephens (November 7, 1916-March 3, 1917).He was nominated by the Progressive Party for the Sixty-fifth Congress, but withdrew in behalf of the Republican nominee.He continued the practice of law and also engaged in banking.He served as member of the State department of finance of California (State board of control) from 1919 to 1921.He served as a member of the California State Railroad Commission from 1921 to 1923.He resumed the practice of law in Los Angeles, California, until his death.He died while on a visit in London, England, July 10, 1930.He was interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California.
