It was situated close to itsRoyal Air Force counterpart atRAF Bentley Priory , nearStanmore . It was also known as USAAF station 341.During the war the facility was the headquarters for the
United States Army Air Force Eighth Air Force VIII Fighter Command (1942-45) and HeadquartersUnited States Strategic Air Forces (USSTAF) during 1944 and 1945, a redesignation of the Eighth Air Force VIII Bomber Command. It is the direct predecessor of the current-dayUnited States Air Force United States Air Forces in Europe .in 1955, the facility was returned to civil control. It is now a prestigious golf club.
