Ali Al Bazergan

Ali Al Bazergan (born July 18, 1887) was a leading figure head in The Great Iraqi Revolution (known as [Thawrat Al Ishreen] the June 30, 1920 Revolt), against the "British colonial Occupation" ruling in Iraq. It is an event forever present in Iraqi history and culture;

Ali Al Bazergan contributed to bringing together for the first time Sunnis, Shi'as and tribes to build a nation-state Iraq.

Biography

Ali Al Bazergan was able to fulfill his ambition to help created a unified Iraqi nation with people working towards one cause regardless of differences in beliefs amongst Islamic sects. He and his compatriots highlighted that the British occupation was against Islamic law for Muslims to countenance being ruled by non-Muslims.

Integration of such groups (Sunni, Shia & tribes) were fundamental and the efforts of unity by Ali Al Bazergan allowed a step forward in the process of building a nation-state. The country was driven by conflict and tension that the British Occupation had instilled. The likes of Ali Al Bazergan voiced concerns and acted to generate support for a revolution to take place.

Despite a number of capture attempts and being trailed constantly by British spies he was able to overcome obstacles which came his way and contribute to the cause. Today he is still remembered at Iraqi schools during history lessons on the revolution as well as a street still in existence in Iraq Bearing his name.
