The American University of London (AUOL) is a private, unaccredited educational institution offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business, Information Technology, Law, Education & Liberal Arts, Humanities and English, solely by distance learning. The institution has no campus and does not award British qualifications. According to its website, it is incorporated in St. Kitts and Nevis. The institution's website states that it is accredited in the United States by unidentified "non-governmental agencies specializing primarily in distance learning" and by the World Association of Universities and Colleges, which is an unrecognized accreditation agency. On 13 January 2006, American University of London was found guilty and was fined by the government of London for violations of the Trade Descriptions Act and Business Names Act for misleading prospective students by deceptively representing itself as a university in spite of lacking proper accreditation.
