Biography
Gilda Pianelli was born in the West Indies and is of Italian heritage. She has been working in the entertainment industry for over thirty years. She is a Theatre and Film Director. Gilda Pianelli is also a revered Master Acting Coach (protégé of Eric Morris) and trains actors at south Florida’s renowned school; University Center for the Performing Arts, Inc., for the past 27 years. She is the Theatre and Film Department Director and the director of the University Center for the Performing Arts Film Festival.
Gilda Pianelli also is a stage lighting designer with her work being showcased all over the world. She has worked with The Body and Soul Dance Company from 1982 to 1992. She has worked with Bailes Ferrer south Florida’s premiere Flamenco dance company and Tranzendance south Florida’s premiere Modern dance company. She currently is designing for Masala Fusion; a middle-eastern dance company.
Gilda Pianelli is the CEO of Ambassador Pictures, Inc. Along with her business partner who is an award winning Cinematographer from Ecuador Diego Recalde will be producing/directing two films in 2010. One is entitled "The Window" and is written by award winning playwright Michael McKeever. This film deals with the bonding of two terminally ill women from different cultures.
On the Theatre front: Gilda Pianelli directed 'A Song For Coretta' in September 2008. An homage to Coretta Scott King written by Pearl Cleage. In October/November 2009 she directed Christopher Durang's Beyond Therapy for the University Center for the Performing Arts Black Box Theatre. A play that deals with trying to find a 'perfect' relationship. There was a delay with this production because Gilda's Mother Mrs. Gladys Pianelli died on June 15, 2009 from cancer. The production of 'Beyond Therapy' was dedicated in memory of her Mother.
For the 2010 season Miss Pianelli directed 'Midsummer Night's Dream' in an extravagantly lavish production of Shakespeare's crossed lovers presented at the University Center for the Performing Arts theater in February. Standing room only. Closing the season Miss Pianelli will direct an experimental play entitled, 'Eating Out' which deals with the emotional side of eating disorders.
In the upcoming 2011 Theatre season at the University Center for the Performing Arts Gilda will be directing Harold Pinter's 'Mountain Language.' A stunning and impacting political drama starring German actor David Von B, and American actors Holly Blakney, Robert Cernuda, and Shirley Gil.
She speaks Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and English languages. An activist and supporter of children and women's issues. A supporter of the arts. A supporter of animal rights.
