Biography

Early Life

*Kangana spent her childhood in Dehra Dun and studied in DAV High School. In school she participated in debates and Elocutions.She was a basket-ball player. After completing her schooling, she attended Science College in Simla. Her grandfather was an IAS Officer. Kangana's mother Asha Ranawt is a school teacher and her father Amardeep Ranawt is a businessman. She has one elder sister, a younger brother Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit.

Theatre

* She started her acting career in Delhi with Asmita theatre group. She trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in many plays. Her major theatre venture with Arvind Gaur was Rakt-Kalyan written by Girish Karnad.

* She was also enrolled in the Elite School of Modeling. She is a trained Kathak dancer, and is learning to sing from Amitabh Chakraborty.

Theatre to Film

* Kangana moved to Mumbai and received the offer for Mahesh Bhatt's film Gangster. During September 2005 Bollywood Film-maker Anurag Basu spotted her in a cafe in Bombay, and signed her up for this movie. Film was critically and commercially successful.Kangana's performance was appriciated by cinema critics.

* Kangana's third film Anurag Basu's Life In A...Metro was a big hit.
