January 3 ,1815 -April 16 ,1904 ) was a U.S. Representative fromKentucky .Born near
Cynthiana, Kentucky , Ward attended the county schools andTransylvania University ,Lexington, Kentucky .He served as clerk on a steamboat on theTombigbee River for several years.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1844 and commenced practice inCynthiana, Kentucky . City attorney of Cynthiana in 1860.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the State house of representatives in 1861.He served as member of theKentucky House of Representatives 1863-1865.He was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1864 to the Thirty-ninth Congress.Ward was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Green Clay Smith and served from
December 3 ,1866 , toMarch 3 ,1867 .He was not a candidate for renomination in 1866.He resumed the practice of law and subsequently became president of the National Bank of Cynthiana.He died inCynthiana, Kentucky ,April 16 ,1904 .He was interred in Battle Grove Cemetery.References
