Stewart Donaldson is Professor and Chair of Psychology, Director of the Institute of Organizational and Program Evaluation Research, and Dean of the School of Behavioral and Organizational Sciences (SBOS),
Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California. He has taught numerous courses and published widely on the topics oforganizational psychology , organization and career development, health promotion and disease prevention,program evaluation , and applied research methods.Dr. Donaldson serves on the Editorial Boards of the American Journal of Evaluation and New Directions for Evaluation, is co-founder and leads the Southern California Evaluation Association with Dr. Christina Christie, served as Co-Chair of the Theory-Driven Evaluation and Program Theory Topical Interest Group of the American Evaluation Association (AEA) from 1994-2002, and is or has been principal investigator on numerous organizational development and evaluation grants and contracts.
As Director of the Institute of Organizational and Program Evaluation Research (IOPER), Dr. Donaldson has provided organizational consulting, research, or program evaluation services to more than 100 different organizations during the past decade. The mission of the Institute of Organizational and Program Evaluation Research is to influence the direction and effectiveness organizations and social programs, facilitate constructive social and organizational change, and enrich the quality of life in communities and organizations. Internships at IOPER are tightly linked to the SBOS curriculum, and are designed to give graduate students opportunities to apply theories, principles, findings, and methods of psychological science to "real world" problems.
Program Theory-Driven Evaluation
Dr. Donaldson is one of the leading figures in the area of theory-driven evaluation, commonly accepted strategies for practicing evaluation in “real world” settings. Program theory-driven evaluation follows a three-step model: developing program impact theory; formulating and prioritizing evaluation questions; and answering evaluation questions. Donaldson outlines the practice of program theory-driven evaluation science in "Program Theory-Driven Evaluation Science: Strategies and Applications."
Education
Dr. Donaldson received his B.A. in behavioral science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, his M.A. in general experimental psychology from California State University, Fullerton, and his Ph.D. in psychology with a specialization in
organizational behavior and evaluation research from Claremont Graduate University.Bibliography
