Penangallan

Penangallan

The penangallan is a form of undead from Malaysia, specifically of the vampire variety. During the day, she appears as a normal looking person, usually attractive, but at night, her head tears from her shoulders, her internal organs atrophied, and flies off to look for prey. The penangallan has fangs like a vampire, and wraps her internal organs to capture her prey to feed. Once sated, she flies back once more to her body and pushes her organs into her emptied husk once more.

If she has fed too much, she must soak her organs in vinegar, before stuffing them into her body through her neck, then re-attaches her head. Some legends have that if she is in her 'mortal guise', she can not be truly slain, her body must be destroyed while her head is detached, and once the sun rises, she will be destroyed, having no guise to protect herself with.
