Gedalyah Nadel

Gedalyah Nadel

Gedalyah Nadel (1923-2004) was an Orthodox Rabbi. He was one of the leading disciples of one of Israel’s Torah authorities, the Chazon Ish.

Controversy

Rabbi Nadel was unconventional and controversial in Bnei Brak circles. He accepted the findings of modern science regarding the antiquity of the universe and evolution.

Death and teachings

Some of his teachings were published posthumously by Rabbi Yitzchak Shilat under the title "B'Toraso Shel Rabbi Gedalyah". Posters denouncing this work were publicized in Bnei Brak, alleging that the work distorted Rabbi Nadel's teachings; however, Rabbi Shilat published the work based on audio recordings.
