It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1953 due to its rich bio-diversity. It is spread at a distance of 806 sq.km in Warangal district. It is located at a distance of 90 km from Warangal and 250 km from Hyderabad.
The surrounding forest includes southern tropical dry deciduous type of teak and its associates like
thiruman ,maddi , andbamboo , while the fauna includes several endangered animals liketiger ,sloth bear , four-hornedantelope ,chinkara andblack buck .The climate is usually hot round the year.
