Joan Walsh is an American editor,
writer , andblogger . Since February 2005 she has been the editor-in-chief of "Salon.com ", aSan Francisco -based on-line magazine. She joined "Salon" as its first full-time news editor in 1998, and became managing editor in 2004. Walsh had previously worked for "In These Times " and the "Santa Barbara News and Review ". She has written freelance articles for a variety of newspapers and magazines, including the "Los Angeles Times " and "The Nation ".Walsh writes frequently on current American political topics, typically in blog form at "Salon." Criticisms of the
Iraq War and theGeorge W. Bush administration have featured regularly in her posts. She has appeared onMSNBC 's "Scarborough Country ", where she often spars with conservative guests. Since "Scarborough Country " ended and host Joe Scarborough took on "Morning Joe," she has been a weekly guest onMSNBC 's "Hardball with Chris Matthews " as well as appearing occasionally onMSNBC 's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann " and several otherMSNBC andCNN news shows.Other areas of interest include education, community development, and urban poverty issues. She has published two books, "Splash Hit: The Pacific Bell Park Story" and "Stories of Renewal: Community Building and the Future of Urban America."
