Most of its course falls within theProvince of Alessandria . The river is of modest flow, heavily reliant on rainfall, with a discharge near its mouth of 1.6 m²/s.The river is born as the Laio near
Grazzano Badoglio in theProvince of Asti , close to one of the springs of theGrana del Monferrato . Its early course makes an arc through the hills of theBasso Monferrato , heading first WSW then curving gradually to WNW, receiving the waters of a number of small streams from the left and passing through the commune ofOlivola and betweenVignale Monferrato andFrassinello Monferrato . NearOccimiano it acquires the name "Rotaldo" and enters the Casalese plain through which it follows a sinuous course, passing throughBorgo San Martino ,Ticineto andValmacca until it enters the Po atBozzole .References
