Knockbridge

Knockbridge

Knockbridge ("Cnoc Bríde", "Bridget's Hill", in Irish) is a small village situated about 4.5 miles outside Dundalk, County Louth, in Ireland.

There are three housing estates, a church (St. Mary's), a large primary school, a shop, a takeaway, a Gaelic football team (St. Brides GFC) and a successful hurling team. The village is centred on a crossroads, where there is a pub and a shop.

Stephenstown House, a large Victorian house, once owned by a branch of the Fortescue family, now in ruins, stands beside the River Fane about a mile outside the village. Stephenstown Pond, about a hundred metres from the house, was refurbished recently. Knockbridge Church (St Mary's) has a number of Harry Clarke designed stained-glass windows. Also nearby is the famous Cuchulainn's Stone which still stands, where the legendary hero is reputed to have died. Since 2000 it's parish priest has been Fr. Gerard McGinnity.
