John William "Johnny" Bates (August 21, 1882 in Steubenville, Ohio - February 10, 1949 in Steubenville, Ohio), is a former Major League Baseball outfielder. He played nine seasons in the majors from by|1906 until by|1914. Bates played for the Boston Beaneaters, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs in the National League, and finished his career with the Baltimore Terrapins of the Federal League.
